All federally regulated property and casualty insurance companies are required by law to be members of an independent organization which deals with complaints that cannot be resolved by the insurer. Mutual insurers have formed the Mutual Insurance Companies Ombudservice (MICO). Membership in MICO is open to all mutual insurance companies licensed in Canada but is currently made only of companies registered under federal statutes or federally supervised.
